Starting this week, one Pennsylvania man will walk across the United States of America (commencing his journey during one of the worst winters on record) out of a vision God gave him to see this land restored, and Jesus Christ glorified.
Calvin Greiner has been prayer walking for over thirty years around major cities in Pennsylvania and some of its neighboring states. The desire of Calvin and his wife Stephanie is to see God’s glory “cover the earth, like waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14 – NIV). God spoke to Calvin through Deuteronomy 11:24, Joshua 1:3, and similar scriptures that promise “every place on which the sole of your foot treads shall be yours.” I have no doubt that his prayers have been influential in shaping the positive economical, social, and even agricultural blessings Pennsylvania has enjoyed.
We had the privilege of hearing Calvin and Stephanie speak firsthand several months ago, and heard amazing testimonies of what God has already done with and through them. And while the couple did not elaborate on this, the reality of their prayer walk is that it is costing them significantly – a half a year’s salary forfeited during the six-month journey, plus the daily expenses incurred. That is tremendous faith that this walk isn’t just some stroll in the park, but a commitment that is radically advancing the Kingdom of Heaven.
It is so exciting that the Body of Christ can partner with them in prayer and financial support, knowing that our intercession goes with them and ahead of them across the nation, state by state, coast to coast. I encourage us to pray specific prayers as the Holy Spirit leads for Calvin and Stephanie: for favor with churches and secular institutions they’ll encounter, for states and cities on their route, and for God’s protection and nearness as they travel.
